Expedition section (eDofE) – DofE

If you are using the DofE App - please see instructions here

Please note: You can add your own expedition details (by following this guide), or your DofE leader can add the expedition details for you and they will appear on your account.

When you select the expedition section, you can see the length of your expedition e.g. for Gold, 4 days and 3 nights.

To complete your expedition section, you'll need to:

Submit the goal for your Qualifying Expedition
Undertake your expedition training
Complete a Practice expedition (Silver & Gold only)
Complete your Qualifying expedition
Complete a Presentation (Silver & Gold only)
Submit your expedition section for approval

Step 1: Qualifying Expedition Team Goal

1. Enter your ‘Qualifying expedition aims and goals’ and click ‘Save’.

2. A success notification will be displayed in the top right hand corner of the screen and you will be redirected to the expedition section.

Step 2: Expedition Training

1. You can tick off your expedition training as you complete it. Your progress will be automatically saved along the way.

2. The status of the section will change to ‘Draft’.

3. Once all the listed items have been completed, you will need to select your Leader from the dropdown and click the ‘Submit for Approval’ button.

4. A notification will be displayed in the top right hand corner of eDofE, confirming the expedition training has been submitted successfully.

The status of the expedition training section will be updated to ‘Submitted’.

When your DofE Leader has approved your expedition training, the status will be updated to ‘Completed’.

If you are completing your Silver or Gold Award you now need to complete Step 3 - Practice expedition. For Bronze Award participants, a practice expedition is not required, so you can skip step 3 and continue to step 4 – Qualifying expedition.

Step 3: Practice Expedition (Silver & Gold expeditions only)

Please note: Practice expeditions are not required for bronze expeditions.

1. Open the expedition section, scroll down to the practice expedition section. Click the ‘Add Practice’ button.

2. Add the details of your practice expedition.

Please note: expedition start & end points must be in the format described here

3. Once all details have been entered, you will need to submit the practice expedition section to your DofE Leader by selecting them from the dropdown menu and clicking on the ‘Submit for Approval’ button.

4. If successfully submitted, a confirmation message will appear briefly on the top right of the screen:

The status of the Practice expedition section will change to ‘Submitted’.

You can see the details of your practice expedition by clicking on the ‘Show Practices’ button or add further practice expeditions by using the ‘Add Practice’ button.

Once approved by your DofE Leader, the section status will update to ‘Completed’.

You can now move on to the next part of the expedition section and add your Qualifying expedition.

Step 4: Qualifying Expedition

1. Open the expedition section, scroll down to the qualifying expedition section and click the arrow.

2. Add the details for your qualifying expedition.

Please note: expedition start & end points must be in the format described here

3. Select your DofE Leader from the dropdown menu and click the ‘Submit for Approval’ button.

4. A confirmation message will be displayed in the top right corner of eDofE to indicate the qualifying expedition details have been successfully submitted.

The status of the qualifying expedition section will change to ‘Submitted’.

Once approved by your DofE Leader, the section status will update to ‘Completed'.

Step 5: Presentation (Silver & Gold expeditions only)

Please note: a presentation is not required for Bronze

1. Open the expedition section, scroll down to the Presentation section and click the arrow.

2. Fill in the presentation details and click the ‘Save’ button.

3. A confirmation message will be shown briefly in the top right corner of the screen.

4. The status of the presentation section will be marked as ‘Completed’.

Step 6: Submit your expedition section

Once all parts of your expedition section have been approved, you’ve been assessed on your qualifying expedition and submitted an assessor’s report, you can submit your entire expedition section for approval.

To submit your Expedition section:

1. Select your DofE Leader from the dropdown box and click the ‘Submit Section’ button.

If you are unable to submit your expedition section (i.e. there is no ‘Submit Section’ button), you can see the reason(s) why at the bottom of the page.

You can upload evidence, including assessor reports, using the ‘Manage Evidence’ button.

The ‘Mapping’ button can be used to create, view and edit maps which can be used on your expedition(s). You will need to create an OS Maps account. For more information on how to do this, please see our eDofE Mapping User Guide – DofE

2. When the section has been submitted successfully a confirmation will appear briefly in the top right hand corner of the page and you will be redirected to your ‘My Journey’ page.
